Search Tips for Finding Newspaper Articles
- These databases probably index more newspapers than your library carries.
To make your search more efficient, find out which newspapers are available
in your library by running a title search in your library's online catalog.
Most likely, your library has major titles like the New York Times,
Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. For
a listing of titles indexed, see Search
Help and Tips for Newspaper Abstracts.
- Once you've identified which newspapers are available in your library,
follow these steps to locate articles:
- Connect to Newspaper
Abstracts 1989-96 or Newspaper
Abstracts 97-Present.
- Do a title search for one of the newspaper titles.
- Once a list of results appears, click on the limit button at the top
of the screen, and limit the results of the title search by subject. (Remember
to use the appropriate subject heading for your topic.)
- When you find an appropriate article, note its author, article title,
date, section, page, and column. All of this information is needed to find
the article in the newspaper, which will most likely be on microfilm.
- Ask a librarian if you have trouble finding what you need.
